We have deep and wonderful memories of being at Dewan House with Dinesh in 1975, with our son Sean. There were amazing meals, the delight of the sisters dressing me up in a sari, and always the warm heart of the whole family. Thank you for sharing these priceless photos.

Surrendra and Andrea Bahadur Khare were my neighbors in New York. This was the start of a special and most wonderful relationship with the Bahadur family. In time I had the joy of getting to know Dinesh in New York and Rakesh and family in California. In 1972 I visited Rampur with Andrea and her brother – each day was a blessing that I will always cherish, especially the time with friends in the open plaza of Dewan House.

Dewan House – Those who have been to, would only know how we feel talking about it.
Farsi Couplet:
Naala-e zanjeer-e Majnun arghanoon-e aashiqanast
Zauq-e aan andaza-e gosh-e ulul-albaab neest
(by Amir Khusro)
English Translation:
The creaking of the chain of Majnu is the orchestra of the lovers,
To appreciate its music is quite beyond the ears of the wise.

I haven’t seen the Dewan House but have heard so many stories about our family and the grand house we had.I keep telling my kids about our heritage . Just last week I was remembering the house our family had in Bareilly and was yearning that we should have sold it to somebody who would have preserved the grand house ( its hard to find a house like that nowadays).I would have proudly showed it off to my kids. I hope we can do something about “The Dewan House” and show it off to the world proudly!!
Anybody from our tree in US ? I would love to get connected!!

I have been to Rampur but never got the chance to see the great Dewan house my mother( kuki )showed me the Rampur palace , The library ,The college she went to the factory house she lived in . Dewan house is still a fairy tale for me i have grown up listening to the stories of the huge house that is our legacy today. My mother through out my childhood has narrated the beautiful time she spent with all her family members in Rampur .I don’t no the names of all the members but still i know a lot of names from our family tree and would like to connect to as many people as possible. My mother has promised to take me to the Great Dewan house this time whenever i will go back to india , now i have a small daughter Tishya and she will also enjoy with me and i can show her with pride that this is palace in which her nani has spent her childhood.
I am in los Angeles these days and got a chance to talk to Vibha didi and Anga didi and was overwhelmed to receive the warmth from them it did not look that i m talking to them for the first time and this is what we call the family warmth that u receive from ur near and dear ones looking forward to talk to Rakesh dada and Yogesh dada is any body else from our family tree living in california i would love to get connected ……………
